Hiking in the Zone


Sorso is located in the province of Sassari, in the ancient region of Romangia and faces the Gulf of Asinara. The medieval historic center of the town is called Bicocca and consists of many limestone houses.
Famous the beaches of Marina di Sorso and Platamona, among the longest in Europe, extending for about 18 km, with dunes up to 4-5 km, rich of a variety of vegetation of pines, juniper, eucalyptus and palm trees. The countries of Sorso, very fertile, are grown mainly in grapes, olives and fruits and vegetables. At the west side lies the pond of Platamona, which covers 95 hectares, shallow and communicating with the sea.

Marina di Sorso
It is characterized by several small beaches which can be reached by many descents to the sea, called “pettini” (combs), connecting the main road to the beach. In the centre of the Gulf of Asinara, is located halfway between Porto Torres and Castelsardo and surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mediterranean vegetation. Marina di Sorso can be easily reached thanks to its proximity to Porto Torres, linked by ferries departing from Genoa and Sassari.
The climate is perfect for a vacation during Summer season: the Summer results to be a long season, which starts in May and ends in mid-October with almost no rain.
Temperatures in July and August are located at values slightly above 30°C, the sea values around 24°C in July and August and a constant breeze blows throughout the season.

Places to Visit:
Churches and Monuments
District of Bicocca: in this centre there is a medieval quarter.
Church of St. Pantaleo: the edge of the district of Bicocca. The present church in neo-classical style of 1836 is built on another church dating back to fifteenth century.
Fountain of Billellera: a seventeenth-century fountain built in imitation of that of Sassari. About this fountain there are two legends, both lead to the same conclusion: drinking water makes crazy but they are conflicting with each other.
Palazzo Baronale: in the center of the town, it was built by Amat who lived there. It has recently been restored to make it a huge cultural center.
Church of the Blessed Virgin of Itria: not far from palazzo Baronale was built in the seventeenth century and the facade is characterized by pilasters.
Church of Noli Me Tollere: built in seventeenth century, houses the statue of the Virgin with the same name
Oratorio of Santa Croce: XVI century in late Gothic style, in its interior is placed a precious wooden crucifix.
Church of Saint Anne: XVII century, is completed by some lateral chapels and haa got a barrel vault.
